    Responsibilities

    The Licensing Business Developer will manage and evaluate performance of existing licensees as well as identify new opportunities, categories, and licensees to grow the Tumi brand through licensing and brand extensions.

     

    • Research appropriate brand extensions and licensing opportunities and make recommendations for their development. Including:
      • Category and market assessment; size of market, breakdown by segments, Competitive assessment, SWOT analysis, channels of distribution,
      • Barriers of entry, minimum cost to enter, Critical Success Factors

     

    • Develop licensing opportunities that are approved by senior management.  Identify and interview target licensees and analyze strategic strengths/weaknesses in market and assess fit with Tumi brand
      • Design capabilities
      • Manufacturing/ sourcing capabilities
      • Distribution: Breadth, depth, and integrity of full/price to off-price business as well as Key Account relationships.
      • Marketing skills/strengths

     

    • Work with legal counsel to develop terms sheets followed by contracts.

     

    • Develop business plans and pro-forma for licensed businesses.

     

    • Keeping abreast of back up options and alternatives to existing vendors, in the event a change is required.

     

    • Provide creative and strategic direction to ensure consistency with Tumi brand.
      • Organize seasonal design presentations with Tumi design team and licensee’s design/development/ merchant teams to ensure licensees development is on-brand, on trend with Tumi direction, to ensure a unified brand message and presentation
      • Review licensee merchandise assortments to ensure they are on brand message,
      • Edit licensees’ assortments as appropriate for Tumi channels of distribution. 
      • Review licensee marketing plans
      • Coordinate and review all packaging, POS, marketing creative

     

    • Compliance: Track licensee compliance against contract terms:
      • Sales minimums, targets, guarantees
      • Royalty payments against plan, minimum guarantee,
      • Marketing spend, both contractual as well as discretionary
      • Sales by account & channel
      • Balance of sales by full price/off-price

     

    • Periodically 1-2 times/year hold business review meetings with Licensees to track progress and results

     

    • Organize and coordinate Tumi /Licensee brand meetings with key wholesale accounts to ensure proper support for growing the Tumi brand in new/licensed categories.

     

    • Partner with PM, Licensing on all aspects of the business, ensuring both parties are knowledgeable and up-to-date on all issues.

    Qualifications

    • College degree
    • 10+ years in the licensing business in the fashion/apparel /accessories category
    • Outstanding communication/presentation skills
    • Facile with spread sheets and quantitative tracking of results
    • Strong financial negotiating skills
    • Experienced reading and negotiating legal contracts
    • Well organized,
    • Self-motivated, self-starter 
    • Able to confidently represent the Tumi brand to new partners.
    • Able to travel as needed (expected to be minimal, no more than 10% of time.)
