Responsibilities

This position exists to assist the Director of Sourcing to operationally project manage the finished goods merchandise from overseas, to establish sound relationships with vendors, to negotiate prices, and monitor and replenish product inventory to the level required to meet the corporate sales and inventory plan set forth by the industry growth rate.  This position interacts with vendors, suppliers and various internal departments within Tumi (Prod Development, Design, Product Management, Product Planning, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Traffic / Import, Product Engineering, Raw Materials Purchasing as well as partners with the overseas Sourcing support staff. 

  • Track Production at the PO level and monitor any issues that would delay the production of finished goods. This would involve partnering with Asia Production and in certain circumstances would include Asia PD.
  • Works as a liaison between Design, Product Development, Product Management and Marketing on launches of new products and running changes.
  • Collaboratively assists Design, Product Development and Quality Assurance in assessing production efficiency of designs.
  • Partner with Sales Planning in analyzing current and future planned orders against forecasts and inventory plans to assist vendors in planning with future finished good requirements.
  • Partner with planning to manage the Repetitive Manufacturing process to maximize the finished goods inventory level turn over rate.    
  • Manage the releases of firm Purchase Orders to vendors for various types of ordering for finished goods: (Order Modules, Launch PO’s, Repetitive Manufacturing)
  • Coordinates with Asia Production to review and manage delivery plans.
  • Partner with Asia PD to develop new suppliers; negotiate cost, contain cost, shorten lead-times, and QC on quality improvement.
  • Collaboratively gather cost, retail, & wholesale from PM, Asia PD, & Asia Production to establish target Fob’s for products.
  • Manage Vendors performance on quality and deliveries through Asia PD, Asia Production, and Asia QC report and grade cards
  • Track shipments / delivery of raw materials to support production plans.
  • Involvement in ongoing Cost Reduction / Margin improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates requests from inter departments for samples to support shows, sales meetings and special projects.
  • Assists in the development timelines to support production schedules to meet launch deadlines.
  • Manage timeline with collaborative partners.
  • Leads and provides direction to the Sourcing Asia and PD staff.
  • Liaison between Marketing, Asia PD in the development of collateral materials with overseas suppliers.
  • Coordinates with the Import / Traffic department on inbound shipments requirements.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of International trade and Asian business customs.
  • Industry knowledge
  • Quick reaction in negotiations and problem resolution.
  • Cost containment / inventory management skills
  • Excellent management skills.
  • Strong computer skills (spreadsheets and word processing).
  • Capable of working independently as well as meeting with vendors overseas.
  • Excellent communication and team skills.
